Spalding Rotary Club host annual Disability Games

Rain didn't stop play
The rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits at this year’s Disability Games. Due to the weather, this annual event was transferred from the playing field to the Sports Hall. This year, we were very fortunate in having access to Spalding High School’s sports facilities.
50 competitors took part in many indoor games including curling, basketball hoops, skittles, giant jenga, and velcro target. The event finished with a walking relay race. The abilities of the participants are very varied and the games were selected to allow for this. The enthusiasm of the participants is remarkable and is very rewarding to see.
One always-popular part of the competition is the interval for tea. Trestle tables were laden with sandwiches, savouries and cakes of all sizes and flavours. There were soft drinks, tea and coffee, crisps and snacks. All this is organised by the Inner Wheel club of Spalding, and is always greatly appreciated.
A small raffle raised £110, which will go towards this year’s president’s chosen charities, Breast Cancer Now and Rock School.
This year’s Disability Sports Day was organised by Rotarian John Ralph, supported by other club members.
Winners all round
This year’s teams were from the Boston Gateway Club, the Spalding Gateway Club and Spalding PHAB.
Winners received their medals from Rotary Club President Graham Dawson.
Graham said ‘It was an amazing event and you could see those taking part were really enjoying it’.

Extra Help
This year, the Disability Games were supported by volunteers from the Spalding Police Cadets. These young people helped with lifting, carrying, setting-up, and getting competitors to the right place at the right time.

Cadets received a cadet Merit Badge from Rotary President Graham Dawson.
Graham said ‘The cadets were a real credit to Lincolnshire Police and I want to give them a huge thanks for their help’.
