All change for the new Rotary year
It was a lovely summer evening when Spalding Rotary Club held their annual handover celebration at the Woodlands Hotel to introduce their new Club President.
Outgoing President Graham Dawson thanked the club for all its support and looked forward to his new role as Assistant Governor for the East Midlands district.
Incoming President Jim Tyner paid tribute to Graham’s fund-raising, including his triathlon challenge for the Breast Cancer Now charity.
Jim said: ‘I look forward to carrying on the traditions of the club and its focus on adding real value to our local community, particularly those activities that help young people thrive’.
Many people in Spalding will know Jim from his time as the local policing inspector, where he actively engaged with the community through social media and local newspaper features. Jim retired from Lincolnshire Police in 2018, having received a commendation for his work on tackling rural crime.
Jim still maintains links with Spalding Police, volunteering as a cadet leader for the Spalding Police Cadets.
In the spirit of succession planning, Rotarian Alan Rumsey takes over as president-elect. Alan is an active member of our club, organising our popular senior citizens concert, our Disability Games and our youth events, including the ‘Let’s Sing’ competition and the Junior Chef contest.
Jim and Alan officially took on their new roles on 1st July, the start of the Rotary year. Jim said: ‘Spalding Rotary Club has a proud tradition of local, regional and international service and I look forward to us working to deliver that again in the coming year.’
