Spalding Rotarian Fay Barrett’s commitment and dedication has recently been rewarded when she received the Paul Harris Fellowship award
The Paul Harris Fellowship is an accolade that a Rotary Club can vote to present to a worthy individual within or outside the international Rotary organisation. It is named after one of the four founders of Rotary and recognises extended effort and commitment in supporting the community, whether locally, nationally or internationally.
An Active Rotarian
Fay’s involvement with Rotary started in 1996 when she assisted Battersea Park Rotary Club with its three day Christmas event, held in Battersea Park, London.
After moving to Spalding, Fay was invited as a guest speaker, talking about cake decorating and was later invited to judge a cake competition. After that Fay attended some meetings before being inducted into the Spalding Rotary Club in 2014.
Fay has been an active Rotarian, supporting the Young Chef competition, following which Fay became the District Organiser for this event, organising finals including a few National finals.
Fay was later invited to join the committee to review various national youth competitions, by the Rotary Club of Great Britain and Ireland, rewriting the rules and guidance and acting as an adviser to the head of Rotary’s Humanities group.
In 2018/19 Fay was president of the Spalding Rotary Club and was also president at a time of significant challenge, as Covid set in.
Subsequently, Fay organised the hospitality for the Spalding club organising Christmas events and the club’s annual Charter. evening.
An example to us all
Current club president, Graham Dawson, said ‘Fay is an example to us all and we were delighted to thank Fay for her service, and nominate her for the well-deserved Paul Harris Fellowship’.
In addition, Fay was appointed as an Honorary Member of the Spalding Rotary Club.
