How your donations help us to help others.
Have you ever wondered what happens to the pennies and pounds that you generously put in our collecting buckets? Your small change helps us create a lasting impact.
Spalding Rotary Club is a small group of active volunteers, so we are really proud of the projects we are involved with, thanks to the donations we receive from the people of Spalding and South Holland.
Our main source of donations is from Christmas collections and occasional fundraising days at Spalding Market. We also benefit from raffles at our quiz nights and race nights
We have used your donations to make a difference locally. We host an annual school choir competition, a young chef competition and fund places on Rotary’s youth leadership programmes. We also made a donation to the Rock School Bus initiative. We have supported Believe Sport, an organisation aimed at helping children and young adults with special educational needs. We have also helped a local primary school host a school fete.
All these are aimed at helping local young people thrive.
We also host an annual concert for senior citizens.This ever-popular event is held at the South Holland Centre and is free to those attending. Your donations help pay for the hire of the centre and the performers give their time. This is a lovely way of saying thank you to the older members of our community.
Your donations also help us host an annual Disability Games, giving adults with disabilities the opportunity to compete. This year we have also supported the Going Forward Music Festival at Crowland, where people with disabilities or who are neuro-divergent can experience a live music event in a fun, safe, non-judgmental environment.
At a national level, last year we raised funds for the brilliant Breast Cancer Now charity, donating £1,500. This money will help make a positive lasting impact, funding research that could make a difference.
Internationally, we support the Rotary Shoebox Appeal, helping to spread a little happiness to disadvantaged children and adults in Eastern Europe.
We made a £1000 emergency donation to a Rotary club in Sri Lanka, so they could provide much needed school uniforms and equipment to a community devastated by a cyclone.
Every year we raise funds for Rotary’s international programme to end world polio. Rotary International is working with others in a historic effort that has reduced global polio cases by more than 99.9% since 1988. Your donations have helped fund the vaccination of 2.5 billion children.
Club President Jim Tyner said ‘Thanks to the generosity of the people of Spalding and South Holland, we are able to support initiatives that support young people locally, provide opportunities for local people with disabilities, and support a national cancer charity. All this while also providing much-need help worldwide’.
Jim added ‘Of course, all our fund-raising is only possible because the Rotary Club members who selflessly give their time. But we are a small club, and are always looking for new members. If you think you can help us, or want to learn more about Rotary, give us a call’.
