Rotary funds place for Spalding Police Cadet
Spalding Rotary Club are delighted to announce that Police Cadet Zuzanna has been awarded a place on next year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) leadership programme.
15 year-old Zuzanna, who is a pupil at Spalding High School, previously gave a presentation to the club about her police cadet experience.
Rotarian Peter Start said ‘Zuzanna is an inspiring young person and she will be an excellent candidate for Young RYLA’.
Zuzanna recently received Lincolnshire Police’s Young Person of the Year Award, having been selected by her fellow cadets, to be Senior Cadet.
Cadet Leader Jim Tyner told the Rotary Club, ‘Zuzanna is someone who takes command, aspires to raise standards and has integrity in everything she does. The other cadets see her as friendly and approachable and someone who will always check on her peers and support and guide them when needed’.
The club felt that Zuzanna shows great maturity for her years. Jim added ‘Zuzanna exemplifies everything that is wholesome and good about the Volunteer Police Cadets programme’.
Rotary Club president Graham Dawson said ‘Zuzanna is a true credit to Spalding Cadets, her school and her family. We are delighted to award her a place on the Rotary youth leadership programme’.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Course (Young RYLA) is a 2½ day residential course for young people aged between 13-16 years. The aim of the course is to help young people to develop their life skills in a supervised and safe environment.
During a RYLA programme participants will:
- Gain exposure to leadership scenarios.
- Explore problem-solving as part of a team.
- Discuss and apply creative approaches to leadership and conflict management.
- Build confidence in themselves and what they can achieve.
- Meet new people and make lasting friendships.
- Learn how to arrange youth activities and community service projects at home and abroad.
RYLA can be arduous and physically demanding, so a reasonable level of fitness, and the ability to swim, are essential to ensure that you get the most out of this amazing opportunity.
